India and England are ready to face off in the One Day International series after the T20I series. Three matches are scheduled between England and India. The first ODI is scheduled on July 12, Tuesday at Kennington Oval, London. The second match will be head to the neighboring Lord’s on the 14th and the next shift to Manchester at the Old Trafford on the 17th to conclude the India tour of England.

Rohit Sharma will lead team India for the series while Jos Butler leads team England. After the rescheduled fifth Test match win of England in the homeland against India a week before, India just trounced back England 2-1 in the T20I series. Now, India will surely try to defeat the hosts in the ODI series as well with the same squad.

Even though England chased down the record 378-run target in Edgbaston, the 3 T20Is played in between this week within a span of four days lower the effect of the Test win. India was waiting for a long period since 2007 for a Test win in England, but England retained the trophy with a draw. The first two wins of the T20 series were a reply to the Test win.

While considering the ODI record, India is having a better record compared to England. However, looking at the result of the last 10 ODIs performed between India and England, the winning record is 5-5.

On looking at the One Day Internationals in 2022, England smashed a record for the highest-ever total in ODIs, 498 runs against the Netherlands, and steal the series in 3-0. India, on the other hand, played 2 ODIs: one against South Africa, where India lost three matches, and the other with West Indies, where India won the three matches.

In the last ODI played in Kennington Oval on July 2021, England defeated Sri Lanka for 8 wickets. England has won the toss and elected to field in the match. As per the pitch report, the one who wins the toss may choose to field first. The record shows that the 41 teams who choose to bat second in Kennington won the match out of the 74 played. The highest team score on the ground is 398/5 by New Zealand with England in 2015. Also, the surface is expected to offer some bounce to the bowlers.

By analyzing the performance of the players, team India is ready with a bunch of bowlers in all formats to attack the England batters.  With the experts Shami and Bumrah, England batters will surely have a hard time.  The all-rounder Hardik Pandya is in good form to crack the show. Jadeja is added with Pandya to create an impact with the bat and ball. But the star batters like Kohli and Rohit’s out of form will surely shake the team. Kohli may sit out for the 1st ODI due to his groin strain. But Shikhar Dhawan, the opener is coming back after a period of time. The young middle-order players are all ready to continue their attack in the coming matches.

On England’s side, Jos Butler’s unsatisfied performance in the T20I will be a concern for the team. But if Butler will be back on form, it will surely be a threat to the guests. Butler, the new captain, will definitely try to win his 1st series on home soil. The other batting form is also a matter of concern now with the struggle they faced with Indian bowlers in the T20I. But the comeback of Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, and Joe Root will add hope to the team. Expect bowlers Reece Topley and Craig Overton to deliver a strong performance.
