IPL 2022 Mega auctions to be delayed

IPL 2022 mega auction is likely to be shifted from Bengaluru due to the rise in COVID cases. BCCI also plans to postpone the auction for the IPL 2022. The decision to postpone the auction will not be due to COVID-19 but to the right agreement between CVC – the American company and their ownership of the Ahmedabad franchise. The mega auction is scheduled for February 12 and 13. If the agreement with the Ahmedabad team is not finalized, the auction will have to be postponed.

On the other hand, Lucknow (new franchise), had already completed the team formation process following a contract with the BCCI. They had decided on their team’s head coach, coaching staff, and sponsors within this time span.

According to BCCI and the governing committee, the coming IPL is set to go from April to June.

With increasing covid 19 cases and Omicron virus variant in the country, the current plan is to hold the tournament in one venue only and it would be most likely in the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Their plan was to conduct this grand tournament on all 10 stadiums, but the recent developments regarding the third wave had forced them to conduct all matches in a single venue. Like previous years the board and franchises are not entertaining playing abroad factor.

The Omicron variant had caused a huge rift in the Indian Cricket calendar as it even forced BCCI to postpone all the internal tournaments including Ranji Trophy due to the rapid rise in the cases. The board is now evaluating the situations and planning the backups.

The date for the auctions will only be revealed after the decision from CVC Capitals is materialized. Let’s wait and see what the future holds for the Ahmadabad franchise. For the time being, we are signing off and will keep you updated.
