Whitewashes in a Row! 2 T20I Series for Rohit Sharma

For the first time in six years, India topped the Twenty20 rankings! So, following Rohit Sharma’s Test captaincy in Twenty20 cricket, India has moved up in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings after sweeping the Twenty20 series against the West Indies (3–0). India marked their rankings ahead of England.

Prior to this, India topped the ICC rankings in February 2016.  India, who lost in the Super 12 round of the recent Twenty20 World Cup, has been in sparkling form ever since.  They swept the series against New Zealand (3–0) and now with the West Indies.  India’s hopes of winning the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia this year have been dashed.

Pakistan is third in the Twenty20 rankings behind India and England.  New Zealand and South Africa are ranked fourth and fifth respectively.  Despite winning the series (4–1) against Sri Lanka, Australia – the Twenty20 World Cup winners, are sixth.

After the team’s leap, Rohit Sharma’s achievement as captain was doubly sweet for India.  Rohit became the first captain to lead India to complete victory in three or more series in International Twenty20.  Under Rohit, India’s whitewashes against Sri Lanka (2017, New Zealand (2021), and West Indies (2022)) are second only to former captains Sarfraz Ahmed (5) and Afghanistan’s Asghar Afghan (4).
